ABOUT THE POSITION

This position reports to the Program Manager of the Singapore Membrane Consortium (SG MEM). SG MEM has been set up as a platform to showcase Singapore’s unique ecosystem for membrane technology, and to leverage the same towards developing mutually beneficial collaborations with industrial partners.  NTU, through its innovation company NTUitive, hosts this national consortium. Details about the consortium can be found at www.sgmem.sg. The bulk of the research is expected to be done through online data sourcing with the occasional instances of formal and informal interview opportunities with industry and government partner at consortium and partner events, where feasible. This position will require the Research Officer (RO) trainees to work from home with interactions facilitated through virtual and digital platforms. RO trainees may be requested to attend team meetings once a week in person at the consortium offices at Cleantech Loop, when it becomes safe and feasible to do so.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Officer trainee would be assigned to conduct in-depth research into specific industry domains that may benefit from membrane technologies and innovations. Activities include:

• Research on membrane-related needs in specific industries such as Bio-medical, Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas, CO2 and the Environment, Food and Beverage etc.

• Research and collation of existing and upcoming membrane technologies across the varied industry sectors.

• Analyze and conceptualize membrane technology map along various variables, trends and time horizons.

• Participate in stakeholder outreach and engagement for the purpose of research collection and triangulation.

• Assist in duties related to project management, documentation, communication collaterals and outreach activities.

• Develop big picture mindset and understanding of how a consortium-like ecosystem functions.

• Exposure to different industries enabling in-depth understanding of the pressing issues unique to that particular industry.

• Enable creative and out-of-box thinking when developing what-if scenarios.

• Hone triangulation, validation and critical thinking skills that translates to realistic recommendations to address real life business needs and constraints.

• Develop pitching and presentations skills.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SGUNITED TRAINEESHIPS:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and

a.  Graduated or graduating in calendar year 2019 or 2020 from ITEs, polytechnics, universities, or other educational institutions (e.g. private universitities and overseas institutions); or

b.  Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2019 or 2020.
